J O A N N E S SPAANDER born 10 June 1917 in Obdam, died 4 September 1984 in Obdam. He was a cattle farmer in Obdam, but he longed to do carpentry, bricklaying, house painting, etc. When the baker in the village was shorthanded Jo helped him out, not for two weeks but for two years, while his wife and sons did the farm work. He was also active in the soccer club and worked many hours in the canteen.
