J A N SPAANDER born 31 May 1830 in Jisp, died 14 November 1907 in Volendam. After having been employed as a foreman at a sail maker's in Nieuwendam, he moved in 1859 with his family, together with Jacobus VELDHUIZEN, shipbuilder, with an old barge to Volendam and there started his own sail making business. The people of Volendam gave the new fellow the name JANBAAS (JOHNBOSS). He became several times Verger of the Reformed Church in Volendam. See also note 22) in Appendix 1, page 113. On 3 May 1854 he wed ELISABETH RINGERS born 3 April 1830 in Zaandam, died 11 February 1912 in Volendam. She was the daughter of Johannes RINGERS and Trijntje LOUWE of Zaandam. She also was a business woman, dealing in white sand, alun, all sorts of pills and other folk medicine. Lateron, in the sail factory, partitioned off with a piece of sailcloth, she opened the first Volendam Post- and Telegraph agency. *)

On 5 August 1877 in Edam she wed HENDRIK VAN ESSEN born 6 April 1854 in Edam, died 3 November 1918. He was the son of Teunis VAN ESSEN and Aaltje BUYS. After Aaltje died, Hendrik wed Elisabeth DE BOER, widow of K HEITMAN, born 12 February 1873, married 7 August 1911. Lateron Elisabeth wed Aaltje's brother Leendert Spaander (see page 50). 4 JOHANNES see page 54 5 TRIJNTJE born 23 December 1863 in Volendam, died 21 January 1940 in Haarlem. On 4 May 1884 she wed in Edam JACOB DIRK ARINUS KRAAYEVELD born 1 October 1856 in Sliedrecht, died 22 November 1914 in Haarlem. He was the son of Pieter KRAAYEVELD and Kornelia KROS. 6 PIETER born 26 October 1866 in Volendam, died 11 June 1956. He was a builder of fishing boats and a ships carpenter. Together with his father he started a slipway at Zuider-havendam. It could slip 6 fishing boats at a time. On 19 May 1889 he wed HILLETJE COBELENS born 16 July 1866 in Edam, died 11 December 1933 in Edam. She was the daughter of Cornelis COBELENS and Aaltje UITENTHUIS. 7 MARTINUS see page 54 8 JAN born 4 March 1870 in Volendam, died the same day.
