D I R K SPAANDER born 2 November 1883 in Jisp, died 14 November 1958 in Wormerveer. As the
oldest son of a very big family, Dirk had to help his green grocer father with the delivery of the potatoes, vegetables and fruit. But Dirk had ideas other than becoming a greengrocer. He had set his heart on books. Secretly he made provision in his cart for a weekly magazine "The Prince". Under the tomatos you could find the magazine "Panorama". If you came to his cart to buy apples, you could finish up not only with your apples but also with a subscription to some or other daily or weekly !! Dirk started his own business in March 1907 in a little shop at Marktstraat 60 in Wormerveer. From here he moved to a
bigger shop at Marktstraat 34-40 .where he build up a good business in books and office equipment. He was the founder of a mutual glass insurance company, which insured the shopkeepers in his village against damage to shop windows. He was a member of a commission that build the new Reformed Church at the Wattstraat in Wormerveer and together with his brother Jan had a business called "Bouwen en Behouden" (Build and Keep).
Because of his busy life, he was not often home in the evenings and at his 25th wedding anniversary somebody had composed a song the refrain of which was "I am very sorry my love, but I have to go to a meeting tonight". On 15 April 1908 he wed
WELMOED VAN OMME born 11 April 1886 in Wormerveer, died 2 February 1967. She was the daughter of Klaas VAN OMME, born 9 July 1853, died 8 October 1929, and Dieuwertje GROOT, born
11 August 1857, died 9 August 1931.

2 DIEUWERTJE born 22 May 1910 in Wormerveer, died 30 April 1996 in Zeist. She was employed in her father's business till her marriage on 13 November 1935 to
PIETER GIJSBERTUS HERMAN VAN LOON born 9 December 1906 in Dordrecht, died 17 March 1954. He was an architect and building engineer in the Netherlands East Indies.

3 NEELTJE born 19 May 1912 in Wormerveer, died 19 September 1995 in Zaanstad.
On 25 July 1934 she wed MINNE RISPENS born 20 October 1910, died 29 May 2000. He was the son of Bouke RISPENS and Grietje BOELENS. After having been a traveling salesman, he became
employed in his father-in-law's business, which he took over after his father-in-law's retirement.

4 WILHELMINA CORNELIA ANNA born 3 February 1914 in Wormerveer, died 30 September 1996 in Johannesburg South Africa. She too was working in her father's business till her marriage on 24 March 1943 to
KLAAS KRAMER born 21 October 1914 in Wormer, died 21 February 1983 in Johannesburg in South Africa. He was a preacher in Nieuw Vennep, Nijkerk, Medemblik, Lieoessens, 2 years as a chaplain in the army in Indonesia, Barendrecht, Launceston and Geelong in Australia and finally in Urk in The Netherlands again. After his retirement he and his wife moved to Johannesburg in South Africa to join their son Gerrit and his family. Klaas was the son of Gerrit KRAMER and Neeltje BARK.
